Skoda Jeti
Skoda Polar
According to Automobile Magazine France, Czech brand Skoda will launch two models below the Yeti to form a strong crossover family. To be launched in 2015, the ‘Skoda Polar’ and the Skoda Jeti (tentative names) are the proposed models.
The Polar will be around 4.1 m long and will be aimed squarely at the customers of the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and higher variants of the Renault Duster. It design and engineering formula will be same as the super-hit Duster – robustness and simplicity – and like the Yeti, despite its proportions, won’t look like a “monster” the report adds.
The Skoda Polar will be based on the MQB platform that underpins the VW Golf and Audi A3. The entry-level model gets FWD, while a variant with AWD is also planned.
The VW Taigun concept presented in Brazil last month would also head to the production lines by mid-decade. Its underpinnings come from the smaller and less expensive platform that is used by the Up!. Media reports overseas already hint that Skoda would get a rebadged version of the Taigun for markets where it has a strong recall. Skoda sells a rebadged version of the Up! called the ‘Citigo’ in Europe.
Skoda has initiated work on the next generation Yeti and a facelift for the currently plying model for 2013 was seen testing at the foothills of the Alps earlier this year.
The first rendering image with a Skoda crossover based on the Citigo has recently made its way onto the web and it might provide us with a first look into a final production model.
The Czech based automaker Skoda has already announced its plans to introduce new models in its lineup and rumors on the carmaker working on a crossover different than the Yeti have been around for quite some time. If the original data was saying that the new Skoda crossover will be named the Bigfoot and this should be larger than the Yeti, theophiluschin.com has imagined a model based on the Citigo urban car.
The image posted above is a rendering and our source is naming it the “Jeti”, after combining the “Junior” and the “Yeti” names. The so-called Skoda Jeti is imagined on the original Citigo and it has a good chance of hitting the production line, considering the fact that it looks like a B-segment crossover and Skoda doesn’t currently have a similar model. If it will indeed make its way into production, than the Skoda Jeti will have some serious competition from the Nissan Juke, the Opel / Vauxhall Mokka, the Peugeot 2008, the Renault Captur, the Ford EcoSport and the Chevrolet Trax.
