persbericht :
Seven millionth Škoda vehicle was produced 4/9/2009 The Škoda Auto company has got over a threshold of seven million vehicles produced in its modern history since its merger with the Volkswagen concern in 1991.
The model that triggered off an extensive transformation and was good enough to convince the new investor was the Škoda Favorit that Škoda produced from 1988 till 1994 when the Škoda Felicia was launched. The product portfolio has been regularly extended ever since.
A major change came in 1996 with the Škoda Octavia. Seen as an excellent value-for-money proposition, the car is still very popular and the company keeps producing the original version called the Tour now. By far the best selling model, the Octavia was completely modernised in 2004 – besides the estate (Combi), the liftback and the RS (sports version), the company started producing the Scout, a vehicle based on the Škoda Octavia 4x4. Four years later, in October 2008, the company introduced a facelifted version.
Another ground-breaking model was the Škoda Fabia that the Company introduced at the 58th International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1999. The vehicle came in three versions – a hatchback, an estate and a sedan. The second-generation Fabia completely replaced its predecessor in 2007. Two versions are available now – a hatchback and an estate.
In 2001, Škoda Auto entered the upper medium segment with the Škoda Superb. The Company's flagship was then modernised in 2008, and the new vehicle offered numerous original solutions including, for example, a tailgate system called TwinDoor.
In 2006 Škoda Auto entered the segment of small MPVs with the Škoda Roomster. Introduced at this year's Geneva International Motor Show, the fifth product added to the portfolio most recently is the Škoda Yeti with which the Czech-based car manufacturer is entering the SUV segment.
Škoda Auto regularly wins numerous prestigious international competitions. For example, the Škoda Superb has been voted the Car of the Year 2009 and won the 2008 Golden Steering Wheel award from Bild am Sonntag.
