Air recirculation noise, with recording

Hi everybody,

Excuse my dutch!

I have a Skoda Octavia 2 , 1.9 TDI from 2006 ( with basic air conditioning / clima ) . Since 1.5 years it has had a strange noise from time to time: sometimes when I would turn on the ignition, or press the recirculation button. The noise stops by itself after a few seconds. The air conditioning works perfectly, heats, cools, no problems.

This week I went to do the 4 years maintenance service (at a-point in Badhoevedorp) and informed them about the problem. When I got the car back they said they've noticed the noise, but didn't have time in 2 hours to investigate a lot ( so bring the car another time, we'll work for a few hours and take your money, and maybe we'll fix it ). Since this maintenance service, the noise is constant when I turn the key to the on position , or when I turn on/off the air recirculation. Below is a clip I've made with the problem.

Any ideas ? Can you suggest a service where I should go (around Amsterdam ) where they don't rip you off as a-point in Badhoevedorp ?

Thanks for your time! :473:

So it's got the todo with servo motor that closes or opens a hatch for circulation from outside.

It sounds like the hatch is stuck and the motor that wants to open it is running. Backwars and forwards.

The only people that can solve this issue for you, are some engineerdudes from a Skoda servicepoint.

www.google.nl/maps can help you out for address information.

Good luck

It seems a problem with the electrical motor wich open-and closes the heater valve and ventilation valve, this problem appears often in VW cars. The motor is placed above the throttle pedal, in the upper section of the heater, very difficult to reach.
In German:" Stellmotor fuer umluft und frischluftklappe"
By the way: Welcome on this nice Forum.......

Welcome to the forum, must be hard to read stuff we post here ;)

Is there any fuse our new member can pull to avoid driving around with this noise until there's time for a service?

I can imagine it's a potentially harmful thing to have this actuator ramming something all the time.

Thanks a lot. Makes sense, it has to be a motor. Any suggestions of a good service point ( In Holland ) ? The guys from Badhoevedorp seemed clueless and not that skilled. And they charge a lot.

The noise is only when I turn on the car, or when I switch the recirculation, so I can live with it.. for a while.

Looks like a very nice forum, the most responsive I've seen. Too bad I won't be able to read a lot because it's in dutch. Haha

Anyway, thanks all for your answers, I'm overwhelmed by your replies. How come you are so free during work hours :D

You could try a reset: Ignition on, push button ECON and recirculation button at the same time, then the computer resets and is in selfdiagnosics, takes app about 30 seconds, after that there appears in the display 444, when it is another number you should give it the engeneer at the Skodagarage.

Yep this is correct, i have Octavia 2 my 2005, 2.0 TDI + DSG with climatronic and i have the same "tapping" noise from the climatronic "flaps".

If i press the recirculation button, the sound disappears directly. Sometimes the noise is gone. But most of the time the climatronic "taps".

I heard it's very difficult ($$$) to fix this problem, and it's my own car so i learned to live with it.

Roctavia joined us at the meeting and one of the engineers there has checked his car.

The problem was a piece of paper in his air system. He made a appointment with the dealer in Utrecht and they will fix it.
