Hallo mensen,

Hartelijk bedankt.

Vriendelijke groeten,

Vladimir

As my text was translated with Google translate and I don't know how accurate it is, I will also write the post in English.

Hello people,

I am writing this post to ask your help / advice regarding two issues I have with my 2004 Skoda Fabia MK1:

1) One friend gave me a RCD 310 head unit (was installed in his 2012 VW Polo) because he switched to a unit with GPS. I have visited some car shops looking for an Fakra antenna adapter and an ISO cable adapter. The idea was to install this head unit into my 2004 Fabia.

The person in the shop told me that if I will buy the adapters, I will not be able to use the radio, because Polo has a digital system and my Skoda analog. I find this strange, so I would like to know if the information I got is accurate.

2) I've notice a little bit of mold on my rear seats. The area is quite small, however, the carpet is law. I've checked the seal of the door, and everything seems fine. What do you recommend to use for cleaning the mold without removing the bench and how can I prevent this in the future?

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Vladimir

Hi Vladimir! Welcome to our Škodaforum. Unfortunately I know very little about anything related to electrical car systems, esp. the modern digital systems.
However, I do know for certain that quite s few rear doors of the Fabia Mk2 have had issues with water leakage. There are a couple of YT films explaining everything. Basically it boils down to removing the inside upholstery door panel and the metal inside door panel. Between those two metal panels is a gasket which has deteriorated in time. Remove this old gasket by scraping away the old material. Then one has to renew/ replace the caulk with a new, fresh one. You could try to put a layer of caulking material over the old material to try out if this helps. Personally, for the last mentioned solution, I would try to use a roofing repair material. It is bitumen/ tar like and really sticks to dry metal. The cause is rainwater which gets inside the door and runs downward between the two panels which aren't sealed properly anymore.and thus inside the car.

@Stripedkrijn Thank you very much for the feedback. It looks like the ratio setup is a no go, as the polo has CAN BUS and my skoda doest.

Regarding the mold, seems like a big job. Any idea what a garage in The Netherlands would charge for this?

Also the dashboard of the Fabia I is not made to accept the RCD310, as the Fabia is based on an older model Polo.

Hi Vlad and goodmoring. On YT please take a good look at Hat Boy Harvey's list of videos. One of them shows his rather easy way of dealing with back door leakage. Look here:
As you can see it is rather simple and effective. Hope this helps. I find his list of videos quite informative and, most important, very to the point and concise.

Update: I have performed this repair on 10th of Feb, and so far I am extremely pleased with the result. It looks like someone has already repaired the rear right door by in the past, but he did a sloppy job, leaving gaps between the silicone.

So far no leaks and it rains daily, the carpet is currently drying (I've used baking soda hoping that I will avoid the carpet getting smelly).

Stripedkrijn thank you once again to you and everyone who has helped.

Regards,
Vlad
